Woman at work.

Dear readers,

(Where are my blinkies and gifs? Hold on a sec …)

Dear readers,

(I’m talking to my brother by WhatsApp. Hold on a sec …)

Dear readers,

(Have you ever wrote a post on your blog, edited pictures, talked to your family and friends by some instant messenger, wrote emails, thought about the dinner and everything you must do, at the same time? By the way … do we have all the ingredientes for the risotto? Hold on a sec …)

Dear readers,

(Nature call. Hold on a sec …)

Dear readers,

Due to unavoidable situations of natural and/or supernatural causes, the responsible for this cute, healthy, interesting, awesome and humble space of entertainment, advises that she’s doing her best to edit by herself (because her brother is an extremely cruel and insensitive person) some pictures and write an article about the amazing events which will take place in her beloved city tomorrow. She didn’t stop until now and will probably collapse at night, but, if she survives (cross fingers, please), you’ll have nice posts to read for the weekend!

Stay tuned. And hold on a sec.

Luna

P.S.: Pay attention at this gif and follow Hello Kitty’s movements. Yes, this is a joke, but you will do it. You can’t resist. I’m not responsible for eventual headaches:

Improvements and cute style.

** Warning: this post contains great amounts of cuteness! **

Yay! Yesterday night I was looking for some cute blinkies, gifs, templates, etc., for this blog, on internet, and found a blog full of them! I’m so happy! ^^ You have no idea of how cute my style is I’m not talking exactly about fashion.  My dressing style is a mix of ethnic, folk and steampunk. Especially folk, it’s so beautiful and so me! I love all those tunics, headbands, dresses, skirts, flowers, colors, geometric prints, necklaces, bracelets, hoop earrings, … I love the dressing style of the 70’s! The ethnic style is a trip around the world, especially Africa, India and Middle East. It’s similar to the folk one, in many senses, but more … exotic. And the steampunk is a modern way to see the past (especially the XIX century, with all its scientific inventions), completely related to the science fiction. I love steampunk because it’s funny, creative, full of possibilities and can be absolutely beautiful! I love the mittens, corsets, accessories and aviator hats!

I can dress like a normal person, too … *lol* My dressing style is not exactly cutie. But my lifestyle is. Completely! I’m the type of girl who only has cute stuff. My bedroom looks like the bedroom of a teenager, full of colorful and cute stuff . My brother calls it “Cute Fortress”. Every single thing I do, is cute! I can’t escape from that. I’ve always been like this! I worked as an elementary teacher for many years and used this to justify my cute tendencies, but there’s no connection between my former occupation and my tastes! When I was at college, I used to fill up my homeworks with stickers and colorful drawings. My Italian Grammar teacher wrote, once, in one of my homeworks (full of stickers): “Awww! This is so cute! But I hope our academic friends don’t see it …” *lol* If you don’t know the academic world, especially the one related to Humanities, you won’t understand completely my teacher’s joke. Academic people are boring, boring, boooring! They take everything too seriously! I was insane to be cutie at college But I didn’t give a damn! My classmates and teachers liked me the way I was (and still am). Cute things make people happy! Of course, some classmates were jealous of my ability to make people happy. One of them gave me a sweet nickname: Princesa Alegre (Joyful Princess). She meant I was a retarded, futile and alienated girl, she wasn’t being sweet! Unfortunately, I didn’t have the idea of calling her Grumpy Witch. I should. Some people don’t like cute things. Some people want to destroy them. I don’t give a damn! It’s my way to be and I won’t change it!

Fortunately, the world is changing nowadays. People are getting more respectful and tolerant. Of course, there’s still a lot of bias, but nowadays people have more freedom to be who they really are! I can’t complain. The most of people think that my cute way to be is nice! And I want to see the positive side of everything. But, yes, I’ve already found jealous and disrespectful people! I’m a Hello Kitty lover and have many Hello Kitty items. I collect cute stationery and everything I have is cute, from the keychain to the bath towel! Yes, I will show you some pics. Actually I won’t, but I need to do some thriller to keep my readers … Nhé-nhé It’s all about audience, babe! (Yes, I’m kidding). Take a look at the lovely dool on your right! She’s one of my cute treasures! ^^ I love dolls, especially handmade ones. There’s something special about handmade items, don’t you think dear reader? I love teddy bears! (My birthday will be soon, so, here it is a list of gifts you can give me! … he he he he he) I’ll always choose what’s cute. It’s a lifestyle and it has nothing to do with age! Maybe people who like kawaii stuff, will always be young in their hearts. But, it’s still a matter of soul. My home is colorful and lively! And I’ll always look for lovely things to improve my blog. You’ve already noticed that even if I talk about a serious thing, there’s something cute on the post!   That’s me. Tomorrow, I’ll try to finally show some pics, here! So, stay tuned. Now I need to have a cup of tea. Fancy a cup of tea, dear reader?!

Óculos.

Olá! Como vai?

Maybe, there’s something about me that you still don’t know: I used to wear glasses Smiley nerd. No, I’ve never been a nerd! I’ve always been a good student and honestly love knowledge and culture, but ask my former teachers and classmates! I was the rebel student at high school (the one who asks inconvenient questions and says inconvenient truths) and the popular student, at college. A type of cheerleader, but without pompons and with a complete brain (Ouch! I was meanie! Sorry …). My brother calls me “hipster”, sometimes, because I don’t like mainstream stuff.

http://th05.deviantart.net/fs70/200H/f/2012/131/9/7/hipster_cat_joke_by_madonnafan123-d4zcpr6.png

http://th05.deviantart.net/fs70/200H/f/2012/131/9/7/hipster_cat_joke_by_madonnafan123-d4zcpr6.png

No, I’m not hipster. I have a pop side. Seriously. Anyways, glasses have nothing to do with being nerd, geek, hipster or something. Glasses have something to do with myopia, astigmatism and so on. I started to wear glasses when I was 10 or 11 years old. Back then, glasses were not cool or stylish and people who wore them were discriminated, especially kids and teens (the favorite victims of other kids and teens). But I’ve always liked to wear glasses. I thought it fitted in with my “intellectual personality”. I loved to read, write, draw, paint. But things have changed. I still love everything I mentioned, but in a different way.

I started to wear contacts when I was a teenager, but only at parties, at the beach and in special occasions. Anyway, it changed my life. People started to look at me in a different way. Boys started to get interested on me. It was curious, a little scary, but very exciting! At college, I only wore glasses when I was too tired to put on my contacts. Good times! … After college, I got back to my glasses. And, a couple of weeks ago, I decided to buy a new pair of contacts. When they arrived here, the day before yesterday, I decided that I won’t wear glasses anymore. Why? It doesn’t fit in with my way to be. This story seems nonsense, but it’s not. Glasses are not only a need, they’re an accessory. Accessories are related to fashion. And fashion is something that you create to express your style, moods and states of mind (at least, in my opinion). I look a thousand times better without glasses. Then, they remind me of a reality made of books, studies and a type of isolation. This is a completely personal experience and point of view, I’m not talking about people who wear glasses in general! To me, they represent a geek past, maybe. When I was a bookworm, a little too smart for my age, glasses were suitable. Now, I feel sociable, lively, sporty, more connected to the practical side of life. I’m not that “intellectual” anymore, want to try different experiences. Still love books, art, culture. But … it seems I’m saying a definite goodbye to the geek world. I’ve never been part of it, actually.

Maybe I’ll try a surgery, to be free of the contacts too, someday. It’s too soon to say! My new contacts represent something new in my life, anyway. Some girls try a new haircut, to show to the world that they are not the same, anymore. I decided to say goodbye to my glasses. Maybe I’ll try some new tattoos in the future, I don’t know …

Again: what I wrote about glasses is a completely personal experience and point of view. If you wear glasses and feel fine this way, great! Polegar para cima I think contacts fit in better with my personality. It’s a matter of choice. And respect.

I’ll end this post with a song, by Os Paralamas do Sucesso (they are great!), called Óculos (Glasses). It’s one of their greatest hits. And it describes the feeling of a boy, who wore glasses in the 80’s. Glasses were not charming or stylish back then. Enjoy! It’s funny to watch the video, they were so young! XD

Glasses

If the girls from Leblon* don’t look at me anymore
(I wear glasses)
And every now and then I drive on the wrong side of the road
(I’m not in glasses)

If I’m glad I put on my glasses and see everything well
But if I’m sad, I take off the glasses
I see nobody!

Why don’t you look at me?
Tell me what’s wrong about me?
Why don’t you look at me?
Behind this glass there’s a nice guy!

I need to say that I’ve never been “the man”
It would be easier if I try to pretend an intellectual charm
If I tell you, maybe you won’t believe me:
I wasn’t born in glasses, I wasn’t like this!

Why don’t you look at me?
Tell me what’s wrong about me?
Why don’t you look at me?
Behind this glass there’s a nice guy!

Why don’t you look at me?
Why do you always say no?
Why don’t you look at me?
Behind this glass, a heart beats too

This is not a literal translation. I’m not an English teacher Smiley mostrando a língua. But all the meaning of the song is in the translation!

That’s all for today, folks! Stay tuned. Other posts will come. See you soon!

A little bit of time for myself.

Hello! Did you miss me? Of course you did Alegre. I’m sorry for my absence! Sometimes I need a little bit of time for myself. To update my diary, for instance. Yes, I write a diary. Is it too old-fashioned? Is it something for girls only? (Let me know, boys!) When I was a teen, it was common among Brazilian girls to write not exactly a diary, but an schedule. We used the schedules to register personal experiences, thoughts and feelings and fill them up with pictures, stickers, little gifts from friends, tickets from music concerts, movie sessions and so on! Almost everything could end up inside of a schedule! In the middle of the year, they were so heavy and full of stuff that it was hard to write on them! *lol* Of course I’m talking about the object called schedule (agenda, in Portuguese. Yes, in Portuguese, the word agenda doesn’t have a creepy meaning …), like this one:

http://imagem.casasbahia.com.br/Control/ArquivoExibir.aspx?IdArquivo=6396146

http://imagem.casasbahia.com.br/Control/ArquivoExibir.aspx?IdArquivo=6396146

Unfortunately, I don’t have my old schedules anymore Smiley triste. I have one I made (we used to “make schedules” because it wasn’t only about writing, but also about decorating them!) a couple of years ago. I need to find it and take some pics, so, you’ll understand better what is (or was) a Brazilian schedule. Today I’m having the impression that my English is sounding terrible! Smiley confusoSorry! … I know I promised to show you some pics a couple of days ago and still didn’t do it, but I want my brother to put some watermaks on them, before Smiley piscando. Hey! I’m working to make this blog cute! Nhé-nhéSooo … I actually have an old schedule, but it’s different from the ones I “made” in my teenage, Especially because the life experiences are different nowadays. I’m graduated from university, so, I don’t go to school anymore, I don’t spend hours on the telephone chatting with my friends (daddy used to feel so happy about it … *lol*) and don’t take strolls on the shopping center every Saturday anymore. Anyway, schedules are cool, a cool place to register brief moments. We didn’t use them only to write our duties, like average adults do. They were a type of a diary. Some boys used to steal schedules for a while, to discover secrets, so, we had to create some code systems to protect our intimacy! It’s funny to talk about those things nowadays, because … this is the Facebook age! I really like technology and think that internet is a very nice and helpful tool. But people expose themselves so much on Facebook, that it’s hard to talk about privacy, intimacy, secrets, mysteries. I honestly don’t know if teens write something nowadays, they probably type everything. Schedules and diaries are old-fashioned in Brazil. Teens type their whole life on Twitter and Facebook and expose their intimacy on Instagram. When I was a teen, only a few people had internet connection at home, in Brazil, and I’m talking about middle-class people! So, we had different ways to express ourselves. We got anxious in the end of the year, because we wanted to buy a new schedule! Girls used to carry their schedules everywhere, protecting them. I loved mine! It was a part of me. I like my blogs, I like internet, but sometimes I feel that this new generation is missing something. They are missing themselves. Because everything they do is public. When I was a teen, I could escape from school and meet my boyfriend, for instance, first because nobody would find me (no smartphones, babe). Second, because I wouldn’t feel the need to tell everyone by Twitter, Facebook, etc., that I was with my boyfriend (“I ran away from the Math lesson … ha ha!”)! If someone wanted to know my secrets, he or she had to steal my schedule or diary. Nowadays, the whole world knows what people do, through Facebook! Sometimes I feel that we all are living in a type of Big Brother. Who’s watching us? that’s the question!

All this conversation about schedules, made me want to make a new one! It’s a little late to buy a schedule, but let’s see what I can do …

Nowadays I write a diary. Diaries are different. You basically write on them, right?! I started to write a diary when I was 23 years old, I guess (no, I’m not 23 anymore). I just felt the need to write and be completely honest about everything. I strongly recommend you guys to write a diary or something like that (if you like to write, of course)! It’s amazing! You learn to know yourself and recognize your moods and states of mind. Then, it’s funny to read everything again after a while! Diaries are also about privacy and intimacy. I’m the type of person who NEEDS to be alone sometimes. I need my own universe. I think it’s healthy to have one. I need to write on my diary and be quiet sometimes. That’s why I disappeared for a brief moment. Just needed to be with myself. It’s the only company I have 24 hours a day. And it happens to you too, dear reader. By the way, have you been taking care of yourself?

Stay tuned! Other posts will come! Thanks for your visit!

Café da manhã, Tarsila do Amaral e Beatles.

Hello people! How’s life?

Yesterday, I wasn’t feeling fine at all and spent the most of the time on my bed Smiley triste. In the evening, my brother brought me a puffy envelope and it really made my day: a penpal/swapper, from Italy, gave me some little gifts, including a felt case made by herself! Alegre It’s sooo cute! ^^ Coração vermelhoI promise to post some pictures of it tomorrow! Awww! I love to have penpals and swappers because of this: it’s awesome to give and receive kindness! Everything you give to people, dear reader, all comes back to you! Now I need to make something cute to my penpal, too. Have I ever told you that I’m a crafty woman (if you’re one of my friends, you already know it, but …)? Yes, yes, I am. I’ve always been into art and crafts, but my interest in fashion grew exponentially in the past couple of years and I got fascinated with handmade clothes and accessories! If I could, I would learn every DIY technique related to fashion! But, unfortunately, my multimaiden skills have some limits. I’m not an x-woman (What a pity!). So, I decided to dedicate myself to knitting, sewing, friendship bracelets and crochet. I can also draw, paint, make origami and cards, so, I think I can have a little fun until the end of my life! *lol* Smiley piscandoStill don’t know what to make to my penpal. Actually, I’ve already decided two of the gifts: a knitted headband and a friendship bracelet. But, I won’t post the pics of them tomorrow, because I don’t want to ruin the surprise! Nhé-nhéAnyway, I promise to show you my crafts soon!

Ok, now let’s make some sense here and relate the writing with its title! The United Nations (UN) decided to dedicate the January 16 to the greatest band of all time: The Beatles! If you don’t know The Beatles, there are two possibilities:

  1. You are a kid or a teenager and your parents have a terrible music taste.
  2. You are an alien. If you are an alien, please, leave a comment! I would love to meet an alien!

Who doesn’t know The Beatles?! Smiley surpresoSome people call them os quatro rapazes de Liverpool (“the four boys from Liverpool”), in Brazil. Dad used to listen to The Beatles, so, I learned to love them since I was a little kid! When I was a teenager, I took ballroom dances lessons. The rockabilly and rock ones were particularly funny! And Twist and Shout, by the Beatles, was one of the greatest hits of the dance floor, at the gym!

I had a boyfriend who is probably a Beatles fan until today. He gave me three greatest hits albums, by them, a black and a white one (Past Masters Volume 1 and 2) and one with their # 1 hits (Beatles 1). We even had a song by The Beatles, in our soundtrack (couples have soundtracks, right?!), but I’m too shy to reveal it *lol* Smiley mostrando a língua. I could reveal the soundtrack of the end of our relationship. But it’s too soon to mention Dire Straits. Memories, memories … I spent years listening to The Beatles, singing their songs and dancing all over the house! When I started to learn English (I’m still learning … *lol*), I learned a very funny song by them, I was 11 years old and still have the impression that they made Yellow Submarine for kids! My little cousins love it, the pupils I had love it, it’s impressive!

There’s something special about The Beatles. I’m not a fan (I would be a Queen fan, but I’m not either), but I thank daddy for giving me the chance to listen to their songs. I wonder if the kids nowadays listen to good music at home, if their parents listen to music with them. I have no kids, but share my music tastes with my little cousins. I’m not the type of (boring) person who repeats that “everything was better in the past”. But sometimes I have the impression that some things are getting worse. It’s quite sad to think that some teens (and even young people) are getting in touch with The Beatles songs through series like “Glee”! Smiley nauseadoNo, this is not good. People must listen to The Beatles, period, they have something to show, not a stupid tv series (sorry)! So, if you are a teen and don’t know much about this amazing band, search the web and you’ll find their songs and videos! Just enjoy! The Beatles deserve your time and attention!

The Beatles Day was yesterday, but I had to say something about it! They are part of my life! It’s always a pleasure to listent to their songs! AnotaçãoWhich is my favorite song, by The Beatles? Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds.

I just love this song! I love to sing it! And it sounds nice in my voice, since people say that my voice is warm and melodic and makes them relax! This song is a little hypnotic and many people strongly believe that Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds is a reference to LSD, a very potent hallucinogen drug. I don’t know. It makes sense. Does it matter? This song is great! I love Let It Be, too:

I wonder if some artist today can be special like The Beatles. Again: I’m not being boring, I’m being honest! Their songs are not eternal, because anything lasts forever, but they belong to all of us, no matter how old are we. Long live The Beatles!

Café da Manhã:

To be honest, I don’t remember why did I decide to talk about breakfast (do I really need to say that café da manhã means breakfast, in Portuguese?). Maybe because I was having breakfast when I remembered that I needed to write a post, today. I use to say something about my culture, so … how is our breakfast? Well, if you’re new here, there’s something about this blogger you must know: I don’t believe in a world where everybody lives the same way, has the same lifestyle. It doesn’t exist. I believe in a political equality between human beings. So, men, women, homossexual, bissexual, transexual people, blacks, whites, asians, native americans, kids, teens, adults, old people must have the same rights and duties. As citizens, we all must be equal. But we as not equal as people. There’s every type of people in this world and they have different lifestyles. I’ll always repeat this, because there’s a lot of people who really believe that all Brazilians live the same way, for instance. And … well … I wouldn’t like to disappoint them, I swear, but, in this huge country some people throw food away while some others starve. And it happens in the place you live in, too, dear reader! People have different habits. For some, the breakfast is the most important meal of the day. For others, it doesn’t matter. So … welcome to this unbearably unpredictable world! I have no answers. I have stories to tell. And I’m here to tease you too. In Brazil, everything is possible. I really mean that! Sooo … there are similarities between the breakfast in the southeast of the country, especially São Paulo and Rio. The basic breakfast consists in pão francês com manteiga ou margarina e café com leite (French bread with butter or margarine and coffee with milk). This is the French bread, but I honestly don’t know if it’s really French. Baguette is a French bread. Well …

http://www.granotec.com.br/hotmix/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/foto-pao-hotmix.jpg

http://www.granotec.com.br/hotmix/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/foto-pao-hotmix.jpg

Despite all the differences in Brazil, the French bread is a type of cultural heritage to all of us! It’s crunchy outside and smooth inside. There’s nothing better than a hot French bread with butter or margarine! People still love hot French bread here! It’s a joy when we can buy those recently taken out of the oven! This is the Brazilian bread for excellence. We have many others, but this is traditionally Brazilian. I don’t eat French bread often (lots of calories), but it’s good to do it sometimes! Some people, on breakfast, add cheese and ham to the bread.

Coffee is the Brazilian drink for excellence and we mix it with milk. I shouldn’t say “we”. I don’t do it. I don’t drink milk. Only soy milk and oat milk. But, the most of people (who can do it, of course) drink coffee and milk. We even have a drink in Brazil, sold in bakeries called média (half glass of milk, half glass of coffee). Some people still have breakfast in bakeries, here in São Paulo.

We also eat fruits (especially papaya), cereals, yoghurt, cookies. Here at home, we drink vitamina. It’s a mix of soy drink (in our case), fruits and cereals, very nutritious an healthy! The breakfast depends on the preferences or possibilities of who eats it, in Brazil. But at least in the southeast, the combination pão francês com manteiga ou margarina e café com leite is still very very popular!

Tarsila do Amaral:

And, finally, Tarsila, my favorite Brazilian artist. I read the news today, as ever, and knew that Tarsila died on January 17, 1973, exactly 40 years ago. She was born on September, 1st, 1886, in Capivari (São Paulo’s countryside). She is the most important artist of the Brazilian modernism and her artworks are very colorful and represent faces of our culture. I’ve been in several art exhibitions of her artworks, here in São Paulo and never get tired to see them! Just want to share some of her pictures with you guys:

Onde você mora?

Boa tarde! (“Good afternoon!”) How are you doing? I’m busy today. I’ve just had a cup of hot mate and decided to relax a little and say “Hi!” to you. Mate is a Brazilian tea, the most popular Brazilian tea, actually, from a tree called Ilex paraguariensis. It’s a little bitter, but very very good! One of my favourites. And it’s very versatile! You can drink it in natura, hot, iced, with lemon, peach, guaraná, açaí (Brazilian fruits), etc., even milk! I like to drink it hot, with a little bit of lemon and a few drops of sweetener. But the mate gelado (“iced mate”) with fruit juice is delicious too! We even have a snack bar, in Brazil, skilled in different types of mate, called “O Rei do Mate” (rei means king). I usually have a glass of bomba at O Rei do Mate every time I go to downtown. Bomba (bomb) is a mix of iced mate, guaraná and açaí. It has this name because it’s a bomb of energy. Really! Guaraná and açaí give you a lot of energy! Since nowadays everything depends on images:

http://www.matteleao.com.br/images/produtos/prepare/mateleao/14mixlimao.png

Mate com limão (Mate with lemon): This is the iced version (Really?!). And this is not propaganda, my favorite brand of mate is really this one (Matte Leão). I took this pic from their official website (matteleao.com.br). You can buy the (dry) mate in natura and add lemon juice after preparing the tea or you can buy the dry tea with lemon flavour. I choose the second option.

http://www.plantasquecuram.com.br/Templates/guarana/guarana.jpg

Guaraná: These cute fruits are guaranás. They’re originally from Amazônia (North of Brazil. Yes, the rain forest is also there, but I’ve never been there, so, I’m afraid I can’t tell you fantastic stories about giant snakes, alligators and piranhas. Especially because I wouldn’t like to meet giant snakes, alligators and piranhas! Nhé-nhé) There are many ways to drink guaraná and we have, in Brazil, a very famous soda called guaraná. It seems that only Brazilians drink it. It’s a pity, because it’s the only soda I can bear (I don’t use to drink soda, anyway), so, I would like to find it abroad, to remind my country … We also have guaraná powder, but it’s a type of medicine, it’s not something you can drink like water! If you need more energy, you can mix guaraná powder with your tea or fruit juice. People who study and/or work a lot (like …me) are great guaraná powder users, in Brazil! Well … at least things were like these, before the “energetic drink fever”. I still prefer the guaraná powder.

Link of the pic:

Açaí: These tiny deep purple fruits are also from Amazônia. They have a huge energetic potential (so, also a lot of calories) and lots of good things for our health (sorry, I’m not in a wiki mood, today …). People usually use their pulp to prepare different recipes. The most famous is a type of puree mixed with cereals, banana and other ingredientes (some people mix sweetened condensed milk with açaí, too). People sell this puree on the streets, here in São Paulo. My brother knows a lot about it, but I’ve never tasted this puree. It would be an extreme experience …

Oh, well … What was I talking about? Tea. Yes. I prefer tea, I don’t use to drink coffee. My brother is addicted to coffee and, sometimes, I drink it because he prepares coffee for himself. I love tea, it’s a nice subject to talk about someday, but, as I told you before, I’m busy today! So, I’m here to share something with you. A song! “Onde você mora?” (Where do you live?) is the name of a song, by a Brazilian band called “Cidade Negra”. It’s mostly a reggae band. I’m very eclectic, so, I like almost everything! Cidade Negra is a great band, they make me proud to be Brazilian! AlegreThis is probably their most famous song, a classic, a lot of people in Brazil can sing that song and like it! I was organizing things on my laptop and found this song. It’s so beautiful that I decided to share it with you, today! This is the unplugged version (by MTV). Enjoy!
